Imagine That - MA Project.

‘Imagine That!’ is a children’s picture book which was inspired by the memories and recollections of Ginny Batt who grew up on St Catherine’s Island, Tenby. The island was home to a zoo during the 1960’s / 70’s, housing a variety of animals in the unusual setting of a Napoleonic Fortress. I was interested in the juxtapositions involved in this tale and how I could explore the potential relationships between environment, humans and animals. I approached the idea with excitement, thinking that such a unique childhood would appeal to children today. Inspired by mid-century illustration, my 1970's limited colour palette of fresh, vibrant tones was intended to convey the excited, emotional tone of the narrative.
