Paper patchwork, pockets and pleats
On Saturday I spent the day at Unit 12 Gallery in Stafford completing a paper sampler workshop – Paper Patchwork, Pockets and Pleats, with paper artist Jennifer Collier. It was a perfect day filled with experimentation, embracing my inner wonkiness and lots of tea and cake. I learnt lots of new techniques to use when making with paper and particularly loved ‘cathedral window’ patchwork – which I got a little carried away with! I took some handwritten letters that I had received, papers that I’d collected and one of my illustrations to make my samples more personal.
It was also a chance to visit and be surrounded by the ‘madebyhandonline presents…. ‘ exhibition which is beautifully curated and exceptionally inspiring.
My favourite pieces included mixed media artist Samantha Bryan‘s fairies, the embodiment of an exceptional imagination. Made with wit and skill her fairies remind me of my childhood and making people from pegs and feathers at the kitchen table with my mum.
